Spending Christmas cash and using&nbsp;<strong>gift cards<\/strong>&nbsp;is the purpose of December 26, isn\u2019t it? The&nbsp;holiday didn\u2019t start out this way. Boxing Day used to be about giving to the poor. Sometimes the gift came in a box. Other times,&nbsp;<strong>servants<\/strong>&nbsp;received a day off. These days, shoppers are lining up before dawn and&nbsp;<strong>retail<\/strong>&nbsp;workers are back in their uniforms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2.Some people&nbsp;<strong>won\u2019t step foot<\/strong>&nbsp;in a shopping mall on Boxing Day. The&nbsp;parking is a nightmare and the&nbsp;<strong>holiday spirit<\/strong>&nbsp;is gone. Many have&nbsp;<strong>switched<\/strong>&nbsp;to online shopping. December 26 is one of the busiest days on&nbsp;the web for&nbsp;<strong>credit card<\/strong>&nbsp;companies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3.Besides shopping, Boxing Day is a big day for sports. In many African&nbsp;countries, there are prizefighting (boxing) contests. In Canada, most hockey teams take to the ice. Europeans&nbsp;<strong>gather around<\/strong>&nbsp;their television sets for football and rugby matches.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4.For thousands of people around the world, Boxing Day will always be a day to&nbsp;<strong>grieve<\/strong>. The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami was one of the worst natural disasters in modern history.
